Using thumbnails

Thumbnails are small representations of each page in a DjVu document, making it easier to navigate within a multiple-page document. Thumbnails appear in a column on the left-hand side of the DjVu Solo window.

You can integrate thumbnails into the document, or you can generate them every time you view the document. When a document contains integrated thumbnails, each thumbnail displays the image of the page it represents even before you view the page itself. That means you can view the entire document at once without having to display and decode pages in the main window.

If thumbnails are not integrated, they are generated every time you open the document in a browser.

Integrated thumbnails become part of the DjVu document; therefore, they increase the document’s file size. If file size is more of a concern than how much time it takes to view the thumbnails, you may not want to integrate the thumbnails. If you do not integrate them, you can still show them in the browser.

To display thumbnails without integrating them:

To display and integrate thumbnails:

  1. Open a document, and then choose Thumbnails > Show Thumbnails.

  2. Choose Thumbnails > Integrate Thumbnails.

  3. In the Thumbnail Integration dialog box, do one of the following:

If integrated thumbnails make the file too large, you can remove them and choose to have DjVu Solo generate them when you want to view them. In addition, you can keep them from displaying if you want more screen space for an image you are working with.

To remove integrated thumbnails:

To turn off thumbnail display:

If you want to reduce the amount of space thumbnails take on your screen without turning them off completely, or if you want them to be larger, you can change the size.

To resize thumbnails:

When you position the cursor over the bar, it becomes a double-ended arrow.
