This topic gets you started with the basic steps for encoding an image file, such as a TIFF or JPEG file, into the DjVu format. For more information about the types of files you can encode with DjVu Solo, see Supported file formats.
When you encode an image file, you convert it into a DjVu document, creating a much smaller file size while maintaining high image quality.
To run DjVu Solo and encode an image file:
Click the Windows Start Menu, and then choose Programs > LizardTech > DjVu Solo.
In the DjVu Solo window, choose File > Open.
In the Open dialog box, do the following:
For Files of type, select the format of the image file you want to encode.
Navigate to the file and click Open.
Choose File > Save As, navigate to the folder you want to save the file in, and then click Save.
In the Compression dialog box, do the following:
For Resolution, review the default dpi value. When you encode an image file, DjVu Solo reads the resolution at which the image was originally scanned or created and displays it in this field. You can change this value, if necessary.
Select an encoding setting that best describes the type of image you are converting into a DjVu file, and then click OK.
DjVu Solo encodes the image and saves it in the DjVu format with a *.djvu file name extension.
TIP You can also encode a file by dragging the original image file from the Windows Explorer to the DjVu Solo window, and then choosing File > Save.
