The Compression dialog box contains several encoding settings that DjVu Solo uses during the encoding process. Choose one of the following settings that best describes the type of image you are converting into a DjVu file.
Scanned: Select this setting for color or grayscale images that contain typewritten text, a large concentration of inverted text (light-colored text on a dark-colored background), or photos with text. For example, catalogs, brochures, and laser-printed documents that contain grayscale.
Photo: Select this setting for photographs or other color or grayscale images that do not contain text.
Clean: Select this setting for images that are electronically generated and contain consistently intense text, including inverted text. This setting produces DjVu documents of very small file sizes.
Bitonal: Select this setting if the original image was created in black and white, or if you want to convert a color image to black and white. Examples of bitonal documents are newspaper articles or job applications. (The bitonal setting does not include shades of gray. For grayscale images, choose Scanned, Photo, or Clean.)
NOTE To determine which encoding preference works best for you, you may want to create a small test file that has characteristics similar to files you want to encode, and then try different preference settings.
